Matthew and Rachel were really fun to work with. Engagement photo shoots are very important, especially in order to make great, candid photos during the actual wedding day. Engagement sessions give the bride and groom-to-be an opportunity to experience how I work first hand, and it gives me a chance to break the ice with a couple who may not have ever been in front of a camera before.
Matthew and Rachel seemed a little nervous at first, since they have never been subjects of a photo shoot before. But, they quickly warmed up after we talked and walked a little with my cameras down. Engagement photo shoots with me work like this… I just step back and let the couple do their thing. That’s it. I have them go on a date as if I wasn’t there. Take a walk. Get some ice cream. Have fun. I pepper in a little posed portraits here and there, but that’s about it. That’s pretty much how it goes during the wedding day as well. Engagements are like a microcosm of the big day, except minus the fancy clothes and the guests.
All in all, it was a great shoot by beautiful Rainbow Harbor in downtown Long Beach. Matthew and Rachel had a lot of fun, and I’m sure the shoot eased any anxieties they may have had before the big day. They were naturals, and just like them, I can’t wait for their wedding day.
