Jesse & Amanda Wedding

This wedding is one of my first weddings I covered since graduating from Cal State Fullerton. Jesse was a very good friend of mine, and I was delighted to be hired to shoot his intimate wedding ceremony on the rocky shores of La Jolla. Sometimes, the best wedding photos come from when the couple decides to take the path less traveled and have a non traditional wedding. Thirteen people, including the bride, groom, pastor, and myself, were on hand to witness a charming ceremony during one of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen.

As I normally do, I mounted a remote camera to capture the scene from a different angle from where I was shooting. In this case, I mounted a camera on a rail at the top of a cliff overlooking the ceremony, the surf and the setting sun. Being able to fire the camera remotely allowed me to be on the ground so I didn’t miss any great moments.

Luckily for everybody, the tide rolled in right after the ceremony at the end of our portrait session. It was fun to see family members dash around trying not to get wet. I’m grateful for my lucky sandbag for not letting my expensive light catch the wind and sail into the ocean, which it almost did.

It was one of my first weddings, and I’ve come along way as a photographer since then. Nevertheless, a beautiful photo is a beautiful photo and I took one that I’ll be proud of for many years to come.
